The last working steel plant in the country had been visited by both red and blue – photo opportunities milked until its teat of nostalgia ran dry.
Debates had raged – both from podiums and across online forums from Reddit to comments on a Daily Mail article from 20 years previous.
Celebrities had weighed in – both heavyweight and z-list alike
Hashtags were born, abused, died and discarded
Mud was thrown, fake news followed real followed fake.
Hands shook at the announcement of the victor.
Ticker tape fell like snow.
A 21-gun salute of champagne corks greeted her to the stage.
A private speech to those invited to the party for private words of thanks.
And now this.
A second first for the country.
She is welcomed to the stage with whoops and hollers and waving of flags.
The crackle of the soundsystem introduces her first words.
