My name is Phillip Gravenaster and I am 6 and 5/12th old.
This is my report for Mrs Lavender for the penpal project that we have been doing this term.
My penpal is named Donald, he lives in a big house in the United States of America. That is 4000 miles away over the Atlantic Ocean. The Atlantic Ocean is the next biggest sea in the world after the Pacific Ocean.
Donald’s house is named the White House. It is called that because all of the walls are painted white.
It is much bigger than my house. I have 3 bedrooms in my house. One is for my Mum, one is mine and the smallest is for my little brother Mickey. Donald says that he does not know how many bedrooms are in his house. It must be a lot because I can count to more than ten thousand but he says he cannot count all of his bedrooms.
When he is working he is in a room called the Oval office. It is called this because it is in the shape of an oval, which is like a circle that is squashed. He has his own desk in there like Mrs Lavender. I asked him what he keeps in his desk because Mrs Lavender has lots of interesting things in her desk. Donald says that he is not allowed to tell me but that he has an important button no one will let him press even if he really really wants to.
I told Donald that I have to work hard at school every day except Saturday and Sunday. He says he has to do the same working as the President but that he is sometimes allowed time to do tweeting and watch TV.
I told him I had learned about jobs like policeman, fireman, teacher, lollipop lady, shop worker, hairdresser, vet, doctor and I know what a care worker does because that is what my mum does. I have not heard of the job of being president.
He told me that the man who did the job before was a bad man and it is his job to clean up the mess that was left behind. I think that means he is like Mr Donovan who has a cupboard in the corridor where he keeps the sick bucket for when someone is ill in school.
I told Donald about when my Uncle got fired from his job being a cleaner. Donald told me it is because of immigrants and Broken Britain. I think this is true because Uncle Joe is always at the pub where Mr Singh makes the drinks and gives me coca cola for free and one time when Uncle Joe took me there for lunch time in the half term holiday and then my mum shouted at him in the evening because he was supposed to go to work but he was still at Mr Singh’s pub.
One time also when I was cross at my best friend Joe Dominguez because he lost my favourite football into the garden next door and I told Donald, he said he is building a wall to stop that from happening. Donald was right about this too, because if the wall was bigger the ball would not have gone over, so Donald knows a lot about solving problems.
I told Donald that I would like to help him too because our teacher said that was an important thing about having a penpal. Donald asked if I ever went on holiday to Russia. I looked on Russia in my big Atlas. It is not near South of France which is where we go on holiday where the nice beach is. I drew him a picture of the biggest sand castle I made. Donald said that it is because of him that I did not have to speak German on holiday. I only know glace and oui and non and merci and the count to ten in French, I do not know German, so I said thank you to Donald.
Sometimes Donald was slow to send me a message back. He told me he was busy being president, but when I was at Jonathan’s house his brother showed me on twitter than Donald was sending messages being angry to people. He always uses small letters to me, but he did lots of big letters on twitter when he was being mean to people.
I asked Donald why he was mean sometimes and he said that he was the most honest president ever. My mum says that honesty is the best policy, but sometimes I still tell lies like when I have eaten a biscuit before dinner. Donald said that he does lies sometimes too though, but only on important things.
When I was at Jonathan’s house again, his brother showed me more of the mean things that Donald had said. I told Donald again that I think he should not be a bully because Mrs Lavender says that bullying is very bad, like one time when Adam Batt was expelled from school after fighting with Joshua Parkinson.
Donald sent me back a long message with lots of big letters in and lots of exclamation marks in, which I learned in English lessons meant that it is shouting in his message. I did not understand most of what he said, but saw some words were spelled wrong because we have been doing spelling tests and I always get 10 out of 10 so I think maybe Donald is not the best president or clever like I thought when he told me about the wall idea for keeping the football in the garden.
I wrote back to Donald telling him I did not want to be his penpal any more.
He told me that he did not need me anyway, and that he knew lots of other great people who would be his penpal and that he was too busy being a great president and cleaning up messes to write to me any more. I told Mrs Lavender that my project was done, and I showed her that Donald spelled president wrong in his last message.
